Winter Hair Care Season is Here

Winter Hair Strategies Needed on East Coast

It is usually December before we start writing about winter hair issues, but this year it looks like those of you on the East coast are in for a long winter, so we’ll give you an early start on your winter hair care routines.

We all know what dry winter weather and indoor heating can do to your skin,” says hair treatment expert Philip B. “But people forget that they can really sap moisture from their hair, too.” Here’s how to keep your strands from succumbing to post-winter blahs:

  • Be sure to use a gentle, nourishing shampoo and conditioner. For fine hair, only condition from ends to mid-shaft to avoid weighing it down. Another tip from Philip: “If you shampoo your hair daily, consider just rinsing and conditioning it on alternate days.”.
  • An apple vinegar rinse is an old-fashioned remedy. “It will automatically make your hair shinier, easier to detangle and will help prevent frizz and flyaways,” he says..
  • Give your locks an extra shot of moisture by using a product like Philip B Lovin’ Leave-in Conditioner, which can also work as a styling aid. “Just rub a dab between your fingers and smooth it through the bottom half of hair for a shiny, piece-y effect.”.
  • Apply an intensive conditioning treatment once a week for super-healthy locks. Philip recommends his own
Katira Hair Masquetreatment for coarse, curly hair, which tends to be dry no matter the season—it fills in damaged areas and restores softness and manageability.

Star-powered team introduces first-ever styling component to patient workshop curriculum via Style for Hire partnership

WHATLook Good…Feel Better®, dedicated to boosting cancer patients’ self-esteem and confidence through lessons on how to manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment, and Style for Hire, a national network of personal stylists co-founded by celebrity stylist and What Not to Wear co-host Stacy London, kick off their new partnership with a live, streaming “virtual” workshop.

Stacy London will introduce the new style curriculum for the first time to the Look Good…Feel Better program.  She will be joined by celebrity makeup artist Carmindy (also from TLC’s What Not To Wear), who will lead the skin care, cosmetics, nail segments of the program, and by hair stylist Linda Whitehurst, who will lead the segment on hair care and hair alternatives choices such as turbans, scarves and wigs.

The new style component was developed jointly by Style for Hire and Look Good…Feel Better experts. It provides insights on how to use color in cosmetics or fabrics to create a bright, vibrant appearance; extend choices made for head coverings to create a complete look, and learn how women with any body type can use shape, silhouette and design to maintain their personal style while addressing the physical changes that often occur as a result of cancer treatment.

The Bob Hair Style Part III

Final in The Three Part Bob Hair Series

We start off Part III of our three-part series on classic bob hair styles with a medium bob hair with fragmented edging. This softened blunt is just about right for anyone who has a proportional forehead and no need for bangs. Still, the sides and faux fringe act as a soft frame. Angle the heavy side forward or back, but keep the line simple to maintain softness. It’s also a great look for fine hair.

Geometric Short Bob Haircut

Unless you’re prepared to get a straightening service, this cut will be hard for curly girls to style. But if your hair is smooth, go straight for this bob, which uses strong geometries to keep hair in shape. Also, keep in mind that you’ll need to get regular trims. Then, all you have to do is use a round brush to blow-dry.

Quiff Styled Short Bob Hair

Great for adding volume to fine hair, this blown-back snip is curved at the sides and tapered on the ends to tuck right behind your ears. Because it shows off so much, skip it if you have a really disproportional face. Add a little gel, and it can even accommodate a front cowlick!

Bob Hairstyle with Faux Bangs

No question about it: You must have thick, dense but not coarse hair to pull off this hair style. The trick is in getting the faux fringe to stay sideways, which demands daily blow drying and hair that’s not so coarse it won’t stay in place. Graduated ends stack up for a full finish when you turn them under.
