A Highlighting Tip From American Salon Magazine

Patrick McIlvor Shares a Great Highlighting Tip

I found this interesting philosophy on highlighting techniques in the January 2007 Edition of American Salon Magazine. Editor in Chief Marianne Dougherty Sat down with Patrick McIlvor, owner of Patrick McIvor Color Studio in Bethlehem, PA to talk about- what else? . . . Hair Color

The challenge now is to rethink the way we do highlights. Leland Hirsh, who founded ArTec, is the first person I ever saw who questioned why we were putting highlights all the way to the scalp. Come down mid-strand to see what’s happening, grab some lighter pieces and enhance them. Highlights should not look like pieces of linguini. We should not be applying highlights so it looks like they were done by a machine.
