Hats Off to Odile Gilbert

This is what I love about my business. Just when you think things are starting to get a bit dull or, that hair styles are maybe looking like the same old same old, an artistic designer leaps forward where others dare not go.
“hair extensions and wraps and tucks them around”
Odile Gilbert, the Australian born fashion hair designer extraordinaire has outdone herself with this “hat hair,” don’t you think? It surely seems post worthy to bring to attention just how creative some of the inspired in the hair styling business can get when they have the talent and room to go with it.

In the photo above, Odile worked in collaboration with the renowned Jean-Paul Gaultier in his fall 2006 couture collection in Paris. He is known for his cheekiness and flair for bringing a bit of theater into his designs. Apparently the idea of bringing the “old form hat,” into the show was Gaultiers.

Odile then expands on his idea and thought it would be nice to have the hats done in hair. So she uses hair extensions and wraps and tucks them around nine different hats to create . . . hat hair.

Odile, has honed her creative skills on the catwalks in Paris, Milan and New York for Jean Paul Gaultier, Hermes, Christian Lacroix, Rochas, Guy Laroche and more. In July 2006 she was the first hairstylist to receive the “Ordre des Arts des Lettres,” award, one of the highest honors in France. She is said to have the ability of interpreting in hair designs, the mood of the collection.

Kirsten Dunst-Marie Antoinette

This is just one of her virtuosic hairdos on Kirsten Dunst, in the recently released Sofia Coppala film, Marie Antoinette. Odile Gilbert . . . hat’s off to you! You stand alone, an artist in the fullest sense of the word!
